Project Description

The former Caterpillar plant in Montgomery, IL (now owned by Reich Brothers (is being repurposed for use by industrial tenant. Building K of this facility shall house tenant equipment. Power for this equipment originates from a ComEd switchyard and is distributed at 13.2kV by switchgear located in Building Q. Power is delivered via medium voltage feeders to existing low-voltage substations located in Building K. This project consisted of providing electrical distribution system design services for the installation of three (3) 2500kVA secondary unit substations. These substations provide electrical power for plastics manufacturing within the facility

Scope of Work

Electrical work in Building K was done in four (4) phases:

Phase 1: Consists of Load Flow Study. This study shall determine the extent to which the electrical infrastructure may be loaded before requiring the purchase and installation of additional substation transformers and equipment.

Phase 2: Consist of specifying and procuring long lead-time items.

Phase 3: Consists of Short-Circuit, Breaker Coordination and Arc Flash Studies. These studies shall provide switchgear breaker trip unit settings and the required personnel protective equipment (PPE) and approach boundaries for work near energized electrical conductors or circuit parts.

Phase 4: Consists of installation engineering and construction support. Single Line

Diagrams, Plan Drawings, Detail Drawings, Calculations, Specifications and Catalog Data shall constitute a set of Contract Documents, ready for use by contractors in bidding and executing the Work described therein. Construction support services shall be provided for review of vendor shop drawings, cost estimation and project scheduling.
