Oak Forest Health Center Campus Demolition
Oak Forest, IL
Project Description
The objective of this project was to demolition the entire Oak Forest Health Center Campus which consisted of approximately 1.2 million square feet of 40+ buildings located off 159th Street and Cicero Avenue. The overall site is approximately 340-acre of land. The only buildings to remain were 4 buildings which were used by Cook County’s Department of Emergency Management & Regional Security (DEMRS). Due to the campus’s interconnected utility tunnel system and structure, the DEMRS buildings needed its utilities to be isolated from the rest of the campus to ensure its function will remain in operation during the demolition of the entire campus.
Scope of Work
The services were provided by HOH as sub-consultants to GSG Consultants. The project was divided into three-phases:
First phase to isolate the 4 DEMRS buildings by conducting a utility assessment of the DEMRS buildings to provide design solutions needed to isolate the buildings from the rest of the campus. Based on the option selected by the county, HOH would develop design and produce bid documents for construction.
Second phase was to conduct a utility and structural assessment for the 10 major buildings to be demolished in the first phase of demolition while preserving the underground utility tunnel system. Following the assessment, HOH would develop design and produce bid documents for construction.
Third phase was for HOH to produce bid documents for the demolition of the remaining buildings and the entire underground tunnel structure.
