Project Description
Construction of new mainline roadway embankments, pavements, bridge structures, drainage facilities and all other roadway appurtenances and ancillary facilities for the Tollway’s I‐355 south extension. Construction cost was $38.4 million. This project included construction of three lanes in each direction. The corridor added approximately 12 miles to the Tollway system. The project provided a connection between I‐55 and I‐80 and facilitated urban development and access to communities along the new corridor. This project was part of the Tollway’s $6.3 Billion congestion relief plan.
Scope of Work
Major items of work included I‐355 mainline construction and crossroad bridge with interchanges at Archer Avenue and 143rd Street. Ancillary construction includes retaining walls, roadway excavation, new drainage structures, modifications to the existing drainage system including detention facilities, roadway lighting, signing, electronic and CCTV roadway monitoring systems, traffic safety barriers, noise barriers, pavement marking, landscaping maintenance of traffic, protection of utilities, erosion control and all appurtenant and miscellaneous items.
