Project Description

Harper College was seeking to replace an existing non-ADA compliant elevator for the Learning & Career Center (LCC) campus in Prospect Heights, IL.  In response to this need, a feasibility study was conducted for the Harper College Learning & Career Center Campus for placing a new ADA and code compliant elevator in the 2-3 possible locations suggested by Harper College Facilities Management.  Based on these studies, HOH worked with the Harper College on developing the list of priorities and proceeded with producing concept/schematic design options for the elevator feasibility studies.  The existing building was modeled in Revit so that 3D perspective renderings were generated from the concept design options produced to provide stronger visualization of each design option to Harper College. As a bonus, HOH also assessed the location of the existing elevator location to determine feasibility for the space to function as a small fitness area with a locker room and shower on the first floor while the same area on second floor may function as a future classroom lab.

Scope of Work

The architectural and engineering team of the HOH Group performed a field survey to review and document the existing building and site conditions and obtain the necessary information from the Harper College prior to providing the assessment report and recommendations.  The assessment report included evaluation of the existing building’s structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical conditions.  The report included recommended solution options, affects each option will make on the existing program/life safety, and the anticipated construction cost estimate of each option for the purpose of creating an overall budget for Harper College.

HOH also provided a Building Code Analysis Narrative in the report and reviewed the affects for each option while following the requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction.
