College of Lake County - Parking Lot D Replacement

Grayslake, IL

Project Description

This project consisted of removing and replacing the existing 215,000 square foot asphalt parking lot, including, as needed, repairs to subbase, correction of drainage, and replacement of curbs and gutters.

Scope of Work

  • The existing pavement section dictates a mill and overlay improvement strategy wherein we would mill off all the asphalt down to the stone base, proof roll the stone base to determine any soft spots and base repair work, then place new asphalt on the existing stone base.

  • The existing north/south center drive aisle will be removed as there are frequent accidents with cross aisle traffic not reading and following the stop signs and hitting the north south aisle thru traffic which does not stop. There will be landscape islands, with trees for added deterrence, placed across the center aisle in 2 locations - inside of the furthest north and furthest south cross aisles - in order to allow just entry into the lot from the north and south. Also, parking stalls will be striped across the center aisle to make all inside stall rows uninterrupted.

  • All stop signs within the lot will be removed adjacent to the center drive aisle.

  • The roadway access at the NE corner of the lot should be abandoned as it introduces additional traffic into the already overtaxed parking lot.

  • There is new lighting being installed along the northwest perimeter of the existing lot we will be adding lighting along the northeast perimeter of the lot (~3 poles)

  • The existing parking stalls measure 9' wide by 20' long, with 20' cross driving aisles.
